PINES.
THE PINELANDS.
At a dinner party a few years ago I sat next to a new acquaintance who asked me what I liked to photograph.
When I mentioned landscape as a favorite subject, he chuckled and answered, “What a shame that you live in New Jersey.” As I described the Pine Barrens to him his eyes clouded over and I could see I was loosing him, so I let it go.
I hope these photographs are evidence that my new friend was sadly uninformed. Nothing, however, beats experience. So go and experience it for yourself, and if you go, be silent and listen for that special sound of the wind moving through the pines.
Be respectful, be watchful, and most of all, be thankful.
"MISTY MORNING AT FRIENDSHIP".
RICHARD SPEEDY
This photo was taken at the old crossroads of Friendship which was at the heart of of a 3,000 acre cranberry farm in the later part of the 1800’s. It is a beautiful and quiet spot-- a favorite of mine.
